Before the advent of smartphones, mobile phones used the T9 predictive text technology for sending text messages but typing was really complicated and the typing speed was slow.
This was because a user had to type on numeric keypads where they had to press a single button more than once to choose a specific letter and this meant that a single sentence took a long time to type.
As smartphones began to roll out, developers figured out ways to make typing easier and faster by introducing a better version of T9 technology called the Xt9 technology.
